When sourcing LED panel lights, price ranks fifth. These four things are what actually decide whether you profit or lose.
Buying LED Panel Lights? Don’t Get Burned: A Real Factory’s Guide for Wholesalers and Contractors
You’ve been there. You placed an order for LED panel lights (60*60cm, 60*120cm, 30*120cm), the supplier promised 15 days delivery, and three weeks later you’re still staring at an empty inbox. Or worse — the panels arrive, they flicker after two months, and your client is on the phone demanding a fix.
We see this all the time. As a Chinese factory producing LED panel lights for over a decade, we’ve had B2B buyers come to us after getting burned by the wrong supplier. Here’s what we tell them.
Know What You’re Actually Buying
The market is flooded with cheap panels using recycled chips and thin aluminum frames that warp under heat. They look fine in the box. They fail within months.
Check these specs before committing:
- Lumen efficacy: Insist on 100 lm/W minimum. Below 90 is yesterday’s technology.
- Driver quality: The #1 failure point. Ask what brand driver they use — if they can’t name it, walk away. Meanwell, Lifud, Tridonic are reliable picks.
- Frame material: At least 0.6mm aluminum. Thinner frames bend during install and crack the light guide plate.
- Warranty terms: Read the fine print. Does “3-year warranty” mean free replacement or just “we’ll look into it”?
Picking the Right Supplier (Where Most Buyers Mess Up)
The market is full of trading companies pretending to be manufacturers. Not necessarily bad — but you need to know who you’re dealing with.
Ask for proof, not promises. A real factory shows you their production floor, shares SGS/BIS/CB certificates, and gives you test reports for the specific model — not a generic certificate from 2019.
Lock down delivery terms in writing. “About 20 days” means nothing. What happens if they miss it? Air freight subsidy? For contractors with project deadlines, this matters more than a few cents off unit price.
Request sample batches before bulk. Any legitimate factory sends samples. If they refuse or charge absurd fees, red flag.
Check customization capability. Need non-standard sizes, custom wattage, or specific color temp for a project? Can they actually produce it — or just rebrand someone else’s product?
What a Reliable Factory Brings to the Table
At our factory, we’ve built our reputation on three things that matter to B2B buyers:
- Customization without drama — non-standard sizes, custom wattage (50W/72W/96W flat panels), special color temps, branded packaging. We engineer it, not just source it.
- Delivery you can plan around — for contractor projects, we commit to production timelines and communicate proactively if anything shifts. No ghosting.
- Consistent quality batch to batch — we use the same LG chips, Meanwell drivers, and 0.6mm frames in every order. You don’t get a great first sample and garbage on the second order.
The Bottom Line
Price matters, but it’s maybe fifth on the list of things that actually affect your bottom line. Reliability, quality consistency, delivery commitment, and after-sales support will make or break your project margin.
Do your homework. Ask hard questions. And if a deal seems too good — you already know the answer.
